Setting Up Successors For Success

Keeping this one nice and short- What can I say, Collins is really changing the way I look at things. Like everything I thought I knew, everything I had my firm and dear beliefs about are being questioned. He addresses how level 5 leaders set their successors up for success- makes sense. How can you lead if your successors are failing...? Well, most of us fall into our non level 5 leadership tendencies and become selfish when it comes to rising to the "top."
As horrible as it sounds, sometimes we reassure ourselves of our progress with other peoples struggles or failures. For example, the the other day our reservations manager called out of his AM shift. Me, being the PM reservations shift, expected that I would have to do all the morning reports that we hadn't done because he called out sick. However, my front office supervisor took it into her own hands to do both her regular duties and as much of the AM reservations duties as she could to help me not be so behind when I started in the afternoon. Now that- is a level 5 leadership behavior.
